Who was the first ornament designer belonging to America? The name of Robert Bridge is attributed to this very matter. It was because of this reason that the first ornament was made by him in Boston, Massachusetts in the year sixteen forty-six. Robert Bridge was a son of a well-to-do man of Boston. He attended Harvard University and thus, his educational attainments were quite remarkable.
He began
his career as an assistant to the master silversmith Le Roy Schiele. However,
it was while working with the same master that he decided to take up his own
pursuit of a livelihood. As such, it was not long before he was in a position to
design all sorts of accessories and other works for the silversmiths. While
designing some candlesticks for a client, he accidentally engraved the word
"Famous" on the candlestick. This gave him the idea of carving the word
into the candlestick and thus creating his first ornament. This became the
first ornament designer belonging to America.
